If you’ve been exploring treatment options for depression that hasn’t responded to traditional therapies, you may have heard about Spravato®. Beginning a new treatment can bring up a lot of questions, and knowing what to expect can help ease anxiety. At Thunder Pain and Wellness, Spravato treatment sessions are designed to be calm, structured, and supported by a dedicated care team every step of the way.
When you arrive at Thunder Pain and Wellness, you’ll be greeted by a member of our clinical team who helps ensure your visit starts smoothly. Our medical assistants play a key role in welcoming patients into the Spravato program and helping them feel comfortable from the moment they walk in.
Before treatment begins, a medical assistant with start by preparing you for your session, reviewing important guidelines, and checking vital signs such as blood pressure to confirm it’s safe to proceed. They will also take time to answer questions and address any concerns, helping you feel informed and at ease before treatment starts. A licensed provider (MD or NP) will also check in with you prior to each SPRAVATO® session to review your current symptoms, side effects, and overall readiness for treatment.
Spravato is administered as a nasal spray under medical supervision. After administration, you’ll relax in a private treatment area for the required observation period, which typically lasts about two hours.
During this time, some patients experience temporary effects such as dizziness, dissociation, or changes in perception. These responses are expected and usually fade as the medication wears off.
Throughout your session, our medical assistant remains actively involved, checking in with you regularly and monitoring how you’re feeling. Their calm, reassuring presence helps create a supportive environment where you can focus on rest and recovery while knowing help is always close by if needed.
While our medical assistant provides hands-on support during your visit, they work closely with the physicians and the rest of the Thunder Pain and Wellness care team. This collaborative approach ensures each Spravato session follows established safety protocols and aligns with your personalized treatment plan.
Together, the team monitors your response to treatment, manages side effects, and provides ongoing encouragement. This coordinated care helps ensure Spravato therapy is delivered safely, effectively, and with your overall well-being in mind.
Once the observation period is complete and you’re medically cleared, you’ll be able to leave the clinic. Because Spravato can cause lingering effects, patients must arrange transportation home and are advised to rest for the remainder of the day. Before you leave, a team member may check in with you one final time to ensure you’re feeling stable and to review any next steps or follow-up instructions.
